Caring for Your Metallic Epoxy Floors

Caring for Your Metallic Epoxy Floors

Epoxy flooring is a popular choice because it is durable and long-lasting. It also gives a lot of decorative options. One such option, metallic flooring, adds a beautiful, dimensional look to your floors. While epoxy is super easy to upkeep, like everything, it does require some maintenance to stay looking and functioning its best.

Here is what you need to do to care for a metallic epoxy floor to keep it in top-notch shape.

Avoid Soap Based or Abrasive Cleaners

One of the most important things you can do in caring for your metallic epoxy floor is to use the right kind of cleaner on it, especially since you likely will be mopping it often. Avoid soap-based cleaners, because they build up on the floor over time and will leave a white film that causes the floor to look dingy. Also, avoid cleaners that are abrasive, such as lemon-based cleaners, because they also will affect the shine over time. It is best to stick to natural cleaners, such as Simple Green, to keep your floors clean and looking top-notch.

Keep the Floor Clear of Dirt

Keeping dirt and grit off the floor will help maintain its appearance. While epoxy is made to be long-lasting, years of grinding grit into the floor will take a toll. Be sure to sweep or vacuum at least every couple of days, or more often if you are in a space where more dirt is tracked.

Spot Cleaning

Spot cleaning is a great tool for upkeeping your metallic epoxy floor. It does not need to be completely cleaned every day, but if a spill has occurred or there is an area that sees more traffic, you can just spot clean that area. This is especially important if gasoline, oil, or other caustic chemicals have been spilled. Gasoline can begin eating away at the epoxy finish if left too long, as an oil. Make sure to grab some rags or paper towels, and wipe and clean the area as soon as you realize there has been a spill to prevent this issue.
