Female Epoxy Artist - December Installer of The Month

Inbar - Epoxy Experts Flooring

Inbar is a young woman taking the Los Angeles epoxy scene by storm. First and foremost a talented resin artist, she took the flooring training with her dad in   2021 and married resin art and flooring together.  We caught up on what they've been up to in the last year and a half, and she shares some valuable insight as someone climbing to the top in the saturated Los Angeles epoxy coatings industry.

How long has it been since you came to the training and started your company?

We came to the training in February of 2021 and we got officially started in March. I already did epoxy art designs with my company Art De La Mer; I would do luxe ashtrays, molds, and cheese-boards; I really mastered the vinyl logos, and ocean shore designs. Then my dad saw the vision for epoxy flooring, so we came to the training together.  You guys did our website and set us up nicely.

Did you have any major roadblocks, and what did you do to overcome  them?

For us, it was working with different kinds of concrete - we recently finished a
super old house from the 1970s, but two weeks ago we did a new build, and
we saw that the material responded way differently. Also, living in Southern
California, we had to deal with the weather because different parts of LA
have severely different climates. In the valley, it gets really hot, whereas
anywhere near Santa  Monica is cold because of the Pacific Ocean right there.
The main thing we had to accept is that you could do the same exact system
but due to that concrete’s condition or however the weather was that day, it
could turn out totally different.
So just being mindful of that, planning ahead, and keeping organized in case
things don’t go as planned. Another thing is being a young woman in this industry,
I also had to be aware of how I presented myself. Being that I had a background
in epoxy art, I had to bring that design and creativity into my floors to
really show people the value I could add, as an artist.

What tips do you have for those starting out in the industry?

When you’re starting out…make sure you have a detailed description
of the installation plan and always have backup material and a backup
plan, in case any mistakes happen.  I write down all the details of the
job - like the weather, how the job went, and any hiccups… that way
if we ever run into a problem again, I can look back and learn from it.
If you don’t learn from your mistakes, you'll repeat them, and it’ll cost you.
You also most likely will need help, so don’t try to do everything by yourself.
Don’t be afraid to hire someone to help you, even if it’s just part-time.
I asked for help from everyone around me, even calling our sales rep
Danny if we had any questions on the product or a job. Also if
we messed up (and it was clearly our fault) or the customer wasn’t
happy with the outcome, I was not afraid to offer another coat or
a different style with no charge, just taking responsibility for what we did.

What was a pivotal moment in your journey, if any?

I am connected to several builders in LA, so every once in a while
I get calls for these huge houses that are like 15 million, 30 million,
or commercial jobs. So that’s been awesome. Living in LA, you get
the chance to do houses of super famous people, and it’s cool
to be a part of that.

What is your favorite type of floor to install?

I love the metallics - not because of the installation itself, but
because of the people that you meet. The people that want a
unique floor typically tend to be unique themselves, so I get
to meet a lot of interesting people. I also love seeing their
reactions when they see the floor. The photos truly don’t do
metallic justice, so I just love seeing their responses and knowing
I did that.
